This article was written and photographed by journalist and bike enthusiast Steve Stroud. He joined our pioneering trip through the Grasslands of N.Sichuan and Gansu into Qinghai. The year was 1995. We were chased by Mastif's and had our tents sprinkled with salt ( a joke by the local Tibetan nomads who knew their yaks would then love licking them). :-)
